Pick of the Week: Joseph Junior & MAQman "I don't see love" (GoGo Music CD Promo)

Joseph Junior & MAQman - I don't see love Back in June, we instantly fell in love with MAQman's "Nightlife EP" where he teamed up with singers Selina Campbell, Aaron Washington and Joseph Junior - the same thing happened when we heard "I don't see love", a precious soulful tune featuring Joseph Junior's seductive vocals alongside MAQman's illustrious production and arrangement. In other words - and similar to their previous collaboration on "Nightlife" - this one has timeless written all over it. Besides the marvelous original version and wonderfully crafted jazzy dub mixes, there are masterly orchestrated remixes on which MAQman teamed up with fellow musician Jezrael to give the song an uplifting classic vibe. But this is not all as wunderkind Ezel contributes what we consider his best remix to date, a truly soulful groovy rendition oozing with glorious melodies. Once again, GoGo Music bless us with a classic in the making - Joseph Junior & MAQman's "I don't see love" is a definite moment in history of soulful house music.

In the Spotlight: Jay Rodriguez "Without you" (Pambele Records CD Promo)

Jay Rodriguez - Without you

Over the years, Colombian native musician Jay Rodriguez has been involved in various house music projects (most notably Groove Collective, a project with Bill Ware on the legendary Eightball Records and Batidos where he collaborated with Ron Trent), now he triumphantly returns with his own label Pambele Records. The debut release titled "Without you" is sheer musical bliss, giving us a glimpse of what to expect in the future - nothing but serious masterly orchestrated music. The 'Original Mix' is on a laidback down tempo tip, oozing with a distinguished jazz vibe that is taken to the next level by DJ Romain on his 'Deep & Lovely Mix' which gives the song a kick-ass smoothed-out four-to-the-floor feel that stays true to the jazzy composition of the original.

Album Review: Mike LaBirt "The Mike LaBirt Project" (New Generation Records CD Promo)

Mike LaBirt - The Mike LaBirt Project Back in 1991, the now legendary New Jersey based New Generation label caused quite a stir with their first couple of releases (the famous "DJ's on Vinyl" series for example), and ever since they have released nothing but quality house/garage music. Now twenty years later, label founder Mike LaBirt presents his full length project "The Mike LaBirt Project", collaborating with many of his friends such as John Crockett, Dee Holloway, Dawn Williams, Larry P. Rauson Jr., Kimara Lovelace, J. Cizzle, Daddy Love, Tony Glenn and Big Moses to name just a few, and the result speaks for itself: a one-of-a-kind project oozing with the timeless, seminal New Jersey house/garage sound we admire so much and have been missing in recent times. And for those into house music a bit longer, it will bring back memories of the nineties, the era we consider the heydays of house music with so many unforgettable classics... In other words, "The Mike La Birt Project" is a testimony of house music. Essential, and not to be missed.

Pick of the Week: Paso Doble featuring Zano "Blind faith" (Melomania Records CD Promo)

Paso Doble featuring Zano - Blind faith

Back in March of this year, Paso Doble presented his debut release "My world" featuring songstress Amera Light, now he returns with the phenomenal "Blind faith" featuring emotive vocals by the highly talented Zano and grand keys over smooth yet fierce rhythms. Only the best were commissioned with the remixes, namely Kafele, Brazilian Soul Crew, DJ Hypnosis, Kalero, The Soulfellaz, Deepillusion, Silvia Zaragoza and OtherSoul... They all keep the vibe soulful while adding their respective touch to the song, with the result being a mind-blowing variety of remixes giving you plenty of choices to work the floors and airwaves, making it next to impossible to pick a favorite... An essential release not to be missed.

Liquideep - Angel

South African production duo Liquideep (aka singer/songwriter/producer Ziyon and DJ/producer Ryzor) released their highly acclaimed debut album "Fabrics of the heart" last year in spring. Tribe Records have licensed the wonderful "Angel" from the album and give it a full release complete with fabulous remixes. The original is an ode to women and the blessings they bring featuring emotional vocals by Ziyon and silky smooth melodies over a laidback backing. The remixes are courtesy of DJ Spen & Gary Hudge who give the song a timeless feel on their signature urban-esque mixes, Sean McCabe who goes deeper on his sublime organic workout and Zepherin Saint who adds his beloved afrocentric rhythms and gentle melodies.

Lilac Jeans featuring Snash - Zithande

South Africa's Sci-Fi Productions are on a roll as they present the third musical gem within just a couple of months with "Zithande" by Lilac Jeans, the trio of Ayaya Socikwa aka DJ Aya, Linda Sikhosana aka Menu and Floyd Nkonyane aka Floyd. "Zithande" features the vocal talents of Snash who impresses with her sensitive rendition of the lyrics which are accompanied by delectable melodies, all perfectly arranged over a spellbinding backing. Menu turns up the heat on his 'Club Edit' guaranteed to cause a stir on the floor, Floyd relaxes the feel on his percussive 'Caribbean Groove Mix' oozing with sublime jazzy keys, and last but not least DJ Aya gets groovy on his deep and smooth yet contagious 'Spring Mix' laced with lush keys. Essential.

Original Drum + Neter Supreme Edits & Re-Splits (Summer '11 Part 2) In mid July, we presented to you part one of Neter Supreme's summer 2011 collection of edits and re-splits. Now with fall just around the corner, part two is here, making summer just a little bit longer with its sun drenched vibes. Like the many other packs Neter Supreme has put out over the years, this one features a selection of inspirational wonderfully crafted interpretations, all of which stay respectful to the original while taking them straight to the soulful dance floors: Blue Six "One more night", Che'Nelle "My pledge", Cool Million featuring Rena Scott "Come to me", Jill Scott "Making you wait", Kindred the Family Soul "2 words", Syleena Johnson "Leave me alone" and The Roots "Din da da" (yes its a cover of the George Kranz classic from 1983). And like in the past, like in the past, we are having a hard time picking out favorites as there is so much outstanding musicianship to be found...

Album Review: Wiltrud Weber "Blue & Deep" (Wiltrud Weber Music CD Promo)

Wiltrud Weber - Blue & Deep

Back in April 2008, we were blown away by Jephte Guillaume and Wiltrud Weber's "Blue & deep" and celebrated this outstanding production with the words "..with its spirit and the uplifting vibe, this one must be considered an innovative masterpiece." The two went back to the studio together and recorded a full album which is about to be released in the next few days, continuing what the single started almost three and a half years ago. Each of the songs is an unheard-of combination of Wiltrud Weber's sensual operatic singing with Jephte Guillaume's intricately organic orchestrations and melodies - from the first to the last second you will be taken on a one-of-a-kind musical journey. In other words, "Blue & deep" is a seminal album taking dance music to a whole new level with its spirited, revolutionary sound and approach.
