The legendary Black Vinyl Records recently returned with some slammin' underground goodies, now they present one of the best vocal productions of the year. Italian producer Mauritzio 'Old Bastard' Baiocchi teams up with American born vocalist Orlando Levern Johnson for the sensational "Wanna be", a marvelous slice of soulful underground house featuring stirring vocals by Levern and melodious keys over a remorseless deeper than deep backdrop in the main mix. This one must be sent from heaven... titled "(Just like) a dream", this collaboration by Pirahnahead and Diviniti features celestial vocals and blissful melodies over infectious yet smooth rhythms, making this an instant soulful house classic. But it doesn't end there, as Jose Carretas delivers a brilliant remix, turning the track into a deep yet soulful affair oozing with addictive synth melodies. With the old school flavored "Truth" by Andre Espeut and Andre Bonser (released under the Masterman disguise), the Soulfulbeats crew (Matt Hughes, Mickey Blanco, Neil MacLean and Powdersoul) present one of the best soulful house tunes we heard in years, oozing with a gorgeous silky-smooth vibe created by touching vocals, delectable keys and a captivating backing. The dub with its deepened feel is a sure fire late night favorite, while Nick Moss (aka Groove Assassin) remixes use a mellow afro-percussive groove as playground for the vocals, grand piano and lush synth melodies. Timeless and essential. |
