With only a few more days before an eventful 2013 ends, it is time to thank all the artists, producers, labels etc. who sent their music for review consideration on Spirit of House - without you Spirit of House would not be possible !!
Looking forward to 2014, one question you might have on your mind is if I will attend the Winter Music Conference or not... I did not make a final decision yet, and although I blocked the time in my calendar chances are I might not attend as quite honestly I'm not convinced it is worth attending anymore (and yes, it is really expensive when coming from overseas)...
Please note there is no update this weekend, we will be back end of next week with fresh reviews.... And finally, we wish you all the best for 2014 !!
Yours truly,
Mike Fossati

It has been a while since I shared some thoughts and news about the future Spirit of House with you... as the year is coming to an end and we look forward to 2013, I felt its the right time to do so now:
- WMC 2013: No final decision yet yet but at the moment it looks like I will not attend
- Direction of "Spirit of House": as stated beginning of this year, the focus will be on soulful vocal house, and more than ever quality control will be a top priority. However, as we want to make sure you are well informed what's going on outside of the world of vocal house music, we continue to inform you at the bottom of the reviews page on other noteworthy releases
- And finally a friendly reminder: Use of my reviews: I wanted to remind everyone that I'm fine if you use my reviews (e.g. for quotes, mail outs, promotional texts) as long as a reference such as "Written by Mike Fossati for Spirit of House (www.spiritofhouse.com)" is added
No update this weekend, we will be back end of next week with fresh reviews....

Welcome to the new and improved Spirit of House website. While at first, things looks pretty much as before, there have been some changes implemented in the last couple of hours:
- The "Content Management System" (CMS) which the site is running on has been updated to the latest "Long Term Support" (LTS) release
- The Guestbook has been better integrated into the site
- Where not previously present, captcha protection has been implemented for forms etc.
- The contact form has been improved
- The comment functions have been enabled for the reviews
Please note as part of the improvements, the RSS Feeds have been updated as well so please make sure you point your RSS reader to the new feeds.
Kind regards,

Some of you might have wondered why they haven't received a newsletter last week and this week... Sadly we need to inform you that after years of problem-free operation of the newsletter, about three weeks one or more recipients reported it as SPAM with the result that one of the biggest freemail service providers is now blocking all email communications from spiritofhouse.com. While we are working on resolving the issue, we decided to suspend the newsletter for the time being. We will provide any updates as they become available.

Admin

If you signed up for our newsletter but have trouble receiving them (usually we send them out on Saturdays), this might be because:
-
your mailbox is over quota (you need to do some clean-up work before you can receive new mails)
-
your email address is invalid (you might have changed it, but did not update your registration for the newsletter)
-
receiving mail from spiritofhouse.com is not allowed by your provider or hosting company
-
the mail is considered SPAM and blocked or sent to a quarantine folder
Please note that we removed all users from the database where the newsletter could not be delivered for consecutive weeks (this step was taken after we've got lots of delivery error messages stating that mail address are not invalid).
You can simply subscribe again if you want to receive our newsletters. Thanks for your understanding.
Feel free to contact us if you have any question or other problem.

Administrator

Similar to last year, I will not attend the Winter Music Conference in Miami. Would be great if those that planned to hook me up with their latest productions could send me a download link or CD, many thanks in advance.
For those that go to Miami in a couple of weeks - have fun !!!

It has been a while since I shared some thoughts and news about Spirit of House with you... so here we go:
- WMC 2012: Not entirely sure yet but at the moment it looks like I will not attend the Winter Music Conference as I'm not convinced their new concept will work...
- Direction of "Spirit of House": Even more than in the past I will continue to keep the focus on soulful vocal house, and I will also try to include more classics from back in the day to bring those good old memories back...
- (Reminder) Use of my reviews: I wanted to remind everyone that I'm fine if you use my reviews (e.g. for quotes, mail outs, promotional texts) as long as a reference such as "Written by Mike Fossati for Spirit of House (www.spiritofhouse.com)" is added.

"House Music Movie" (working title) is a feature length independent documentary film about house music, dance and global pop culture. DJ's, producers, remixers, dancers and fans discuss their careers and celebrity in this behind-the-scenes look at the house music industry. Along with footage of house music in action, the film also captures candid conversations about house (also called electronic dance music) with authors, artists, club owners and cultural experts. |
Visual artist, culture documentarian and independent filmmaker Muema has been working on this documentary about house music for the last four years. The film was shot on location in New York City, Ibiza, London, Germany, Holland, Miami and Los Angeles. To date, Muema has interviewed legendary DJ's such as Tony Humphries, David Morales, Paul Trouble Anderson, Louie Vega and David Harness; legendary singers such as Barbara Tucker and Joi Cardwell; and many more.
Now he is in the post-production stage and he's really excited to bring this dream to fruition. He's not doing it alone. Deeply committed to this project, four members of the team (director, editor, co-producer and music supervisor) have been contributing their time over the last two years to make this film happen. Having already wrapped shooting, he is now at a critical moment in post-production and editing. A fund raising campaign has been launched to enable the team to acquire archival footage in order to finish the film with a target release of late 2012.
To support completion of the movie, please visit the crowdfunding campaign @ RocketHub and donate to the project. An interview with Muema can be found here.

Following up on announcements made over the previous years that changes would be inevitable, the time has come to implement further changes to Spirit of House as after running the site for more than a decade I'm feeling kind of burned out, and I'm struggling more and more with finding enough time to keep up with the weekly updates on Saturday night. Thus I was looking for a way forward that would allow me to continue updating the site regularly while giving me the desired relief and flexibility.
So as with immediate effect, I have implemented the following changes, bringing the site back to its roots (this is how it all started back in the day):
- Discontinuation of the weekly mixshows (note that the "Mix Archive" site has been discontinued as well)
- More "Pick of the Week", "Spotlight" and "Highlight" reviews to increase visibility of outstanding releases
- More frequent (smaller) updates
Kind regards,
Michael Fossati

I posted this before as part of a general update, but thought it would be good to highlight again that I will not attend this year's Winter Music Conference in Miami. Would be great if those that planned to hook me up with their latest productions could send me a download link or CD, many thanks in advance.
For those that go to Miami - have fun !!!
