Even after announcing end of 2009 to cut down the reviews of tracky/techy stuff and focus on soulful vocal house, it was only a few weeks ago I consequently put this into place. At the same time I started to become more selective on what will get reviewed.
On another note, the site was moved to a new server a few weeks ago. This should have resolved some known issues (like our weekly newsletter being marked as SPAM).

With the Miami update published today on Spirit of House, one might ask what will be next... Well, there is some more music we got in Miami that needs to be reviewed, and of course new promos are coming in on a daily base...
Life will go on, so will the weekly updates on Spirit of House... For now, we will relax and enjoy the long easter weekend.

I got back to Switzerland yesterday and started to sort out all the music I got since I published the last update on March 14. Lots of music to review, and to make sure its about quality and not quantity I spend lots of time listening to music...
The first batch of reviews will be published later today, the next part of reviews should be online Thursday or Friday. As for the mixes, they should be online later on the weekend.

The WMC in Miami is over, and exhausted I am from all the parties... it appears to be true what some people say: "you need need vacation from the WMC". Of course, some parties were going on on Sunday, but I decided to take a break and just hang out with friends.
I'll be on my way back to Switzerland today, so expect an update with reviews and fresh mixes featuring exclusives promos within the next couple of days. Also I will publish my recap of this years WMC soon.
On another note, the site will be moved to a new server within the next week as well. We'll do everything to make sure there are no interruptions to the service, but you'll never know...

My business trip to New York is over, and I have to admit I had a fantastic time working and hanging out with my office colleagues...
Today was a beautiful day in New York with blue skies and warm temperatures... perfect to take a "walk in the park" (Central Park that is), to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and go down to Chinatown and Little Italy...
All that is left to say: Miami here I come...

As I will be on a business trip to New York next week and will head straight down to Miami from there to attend the Winter Music Conference, there won't be an update next weekend; however I will make another Classic Mix available on the mix archive. Expect the next regular update around beginning of April.
For those that want to hook up with me in Miami, I'll be arriving the evening of Sunday, March 21, and will be there until Sunday, March 28.

"Spirit of House"

You might remember that beginning of the year I announced changes to Spirit of House, but actually only some of them were introduced. Reflecting the past year, I have to admit that I spent much more time on the site than initially planned which kept me from doing other things. Looking forward I decided it is finally time for these changes to make time for other important things in my life.
So again I'm going to announce changes, and be prepared that this time I will actually implement them:
- The fundament will be weekly updates (usually late Saturday) as you are used from the past
- These weekly updates will include mixes and reviews
- The amount of reviews will be limited (exceptions to be made only for important events such as the Winter Music Conference)
- The focal point will be on soulful vocal house, the tracky/techy stuff will get fewer space and no longer get dedicated update cycles
- Everyone that is using my reviews for any type of activity (e.g. quotes, mail outs, promotional texts) will have to add a reference such as "Written by Mike Fossati for Spirit of House (www.spiritofhouse.com)"

With 2009 going to be over soon, wouldn't it be time to look back on the year? I won't do this right now, instead lets look what is still ahead for Spirit of House...
Expect another mixshow loaded with all the deeper stuff I got in the past few weeks, but unfortunately time does not allow me to do it before mid next week. Then there should also be some "Pour le Connaisseur" reviews around that time as well.
And while we will take a short break over the new year, you will still get some fresh mixes as we plan to upload one or two Classic Mixes.

Well, after my beloved Tascam CD-RW700 gave me so many troubles in recent weeks (not only that it stopped recording in the middle of the mix past weekend, but it also was very picky on the CD-R's used), I decided to finally replace it. Instead of going for another CD recorder or using a laptop, I decided to buy a "Field Recorder", the Tascam DR-100. Might be a bit of an overkill as some cheaper (and smaller) devices would have been good enough for me, but the ease of use and built-in features convinced me this is the right choice. Mike Fossati, |
