Beyond doubt, Philly Disco was elemental for the development of dance music as we know and love it today. Now, for the first time ever, there is a comprehensive compilation to document the birth of Disco in Philadelphia and the work of the unsung musicians who played on the numerous timeless classics we all admire so much. Think of legendary names such as Gamble & Huff (producers), Tom Moulton (remixer), Earl Young (founder of The Trammps and creator of the 4/4 Disco drum pattern) - and of course the artists: Harold Melvin & Blue Notes, The Trammps, Teddy Pendergrass, Eddie Kendricks, Philly Devotions, Carl Bean, John Davis... This project is presented by Dimitri from Paris who has selected fourteen exemplary songs from the Philly Disco era for the first CD, while the second CD includes exclusive remixes and edits he created especially for this project. An essential purchase that is also available on deluxe limited double-vinyl's including bonus material. |

Ferry Ultra featuring Ann Sexton "Rising up" (Peppermint Jam Records CD Promo)
 |
Ferry Ultra teams up with soul legend Ann Sexton to present "Rising up", the follow up to last years gorgeous "Let me do my thang" (which featured another legend - Gwen McCrae). The feel good "Rising up" is an old skool styled soul-funk masterpiece in its original form, taken to deepest mesmeric tech-soul grounds by AtJazz. Soul Minority turn the track into a luscious late night house favorite, while Trancemicsoul's laidback interpretation oozes with sweet percussion, sounds of the sea and glorious melodies. |

Even after announcing end of 2009 to cut down the reviews of tracky/techy stuff and focus on soulful vocal house, it was only a few weeks ago I consequently put this into place. At the same time I started to become more selective on what will get reviewed.
On another note, the site was moved to a new server a few weeks ago. This should have resolved some known issues (like our weekly newsletter being marked as SPAM).

Andy Compton of The Rurals family has been a household name in the house music scene for over 15 years now, but only now he releases his first solo album titled "Kholofelo" which includes a total of eleven masterful songs, some previously released as singles, some unheard of and brand new. Andy Compton teams up with various musicians, singers and poets on this project to present an eclectic blend which the label describes as "Afrodevon Deep Soul Music" - and we couldn't agree more, from beginning to the end this diversified album is sheer musical bliss !! An essential purchase. |

"Where I want to be" is the third collaboration between Andy Compton and Diviniti, and like its predecessors "In love again" and "In time" this one is to become a favorite with any lover of soulful house for sure. Diviniti's deeply felt vocals are combined with gorgeous keys, beautiful jazzy saxophone and lovely guitar, with the deep mellow backing giving the track a dreamy feel. The remixes are courtesy of Matthew Bandy who deepens the vibe to create a late night anthem fueled with lush chords, Bittersuite who goes deeply stompin' on his melodious take (he also contributes the old skool flavored 'Deepsystems Dub') and finally Bazil's delicious laidback interpretations. Essential purchase. |

 |
With "Gypsy love", Wil Milton and Rodney Carter present up and coming star Butterfli Gypsi P aka Patty Moreno Fletcher who impresses with a sultry vocal performance on her debut release. The 'LickQuid NYC' mixes are on a sweet'n'deep tribal-esque tip, with celestial keys accompanying the vocals. The resistless 'Deep Gypsy' mixes take the track to deeper territory, featuring gorgeous keys and chords over a somewhat raw old-school inspired groove. |
